The Tortoise and the Magic Garden

A long time ago, in a small village, there was a tortoise. He was slow, but he was also very clever. The village was dry, and food was hard to find. The animals were always hungry. But one day, the tortoise found something special. As he walked through the forest, he saw a big gate. The gate was made of wood, and it had beautiful carvings. The tortoise was curious. He touched the gate, but it did not open. Suddenly, he heard a whispering sound in the wind. It was a magic song. “If you sing the song, the gate will open,” the wind said. The tortoise listened carefully. Then, he sang the song: “Open, open, magic gate, Let me in before it’s late.” The gate opened slowly. Behind it, the tortoise saw a beautiful garden. There were big, red fruits, sweet-smelling flowers, and fresh green vegetables. The tortoise’s mouth watered. He walked inside and ate and ate. He had never tasted such delicious food before!

Every day, the tortoise returned to the magic garden. He sang the song, the gate opened, and he ate as much as he wanted. The tortoise became fat and happy. But he did not tell anyone about the garden. He wanted all the food for himself. One day, the other animals saw that the tortoise looked different. His shell was rounder, and he walked even slower than before. “Why do you look so full?” asked the rabbit. The tortoise smiled. “Oh, I just find small food here and there,” he said. But the other animals did not believe him. The next day, the monkey followed the tortoise. He watched the tortoise walk to the big gate. He heard the tortoise sing the magic song. The gate opened, and the tortoise went inside. The monkey ran back to tell the other animals. “The tortoise has a secret garden!” he shouted. The animals decided to go and see for themselves.

The next morning, all the animals walked to the gate. The tortoise was already there. When he saw them, he was afraid. He did not want to share the food. So, he quickly changed the magic song. The monkey tried to sing the song he had heard, but the gate did not open. The rabbit tried. The bird tried. But nothing happened. The tortoise laughed. “Only me can open the gate!” he said. But the spirits of the garden were watching. They were angry with the tortoise for being greedy. Suddenly, the wind blew very hard. The trees shook. The earth trembled. The magic gate disappeared! The garden was gone forever. The tortoise felt very sad. He had lost the beautiful garden because he did not want to share. The other animals were also sad, but they learned an important lesson: Greed can take away good things. It is always better to share.
